362 COVID-19 cases reported, 2 additional deaths in SC with 6.2% positivity rate

According to DHEC, there are now 8,237 confirmed deaths since the start of the pandemic, with 2 more reported in the latest numbers.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) released their latest information Tuesday. The numbers reflect data that ended a 24-hour period at 11:59 p.m. on April 18.

There were 362 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the latest data. A record 4,413 on Christmas Day. South Carolina had never seen a day above 4,000 before that date and had never seen more than 3,000 prior to December 9. 

According to DHEC, there are now 8,237 confirmed deaths since the start of the pandemic, with 2 more reported in the latest numbers. There was also 1 probable death reported today, for a total of 1,118 probable deaths. 

Hospitalizations remain steady with 537 reported on Tuesday, with 149 of those patients in intensive care and 66 on ventilators.
