Winter weather advisory canceled for northern parts of the Midlands

Columbia, SC (WLTX) — The National Weather Service has canceled the winter weather advisory for the northern midlands has been canceled. Any light precipitation that may develop late this afternoon and evening should not result in significant travel issues, officials say.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of the northern Midlands. The advisory includes Newberry, Fairfield and Kershaw counties. The advisory continues through Monday evening.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will could cause travel difficulties. Slippery roads and limited visibilities are also possible.

Rain is expected to redevelop during the early morning hours of Monday. Temperatures will be colder. The rain could be mixed with snow or sleet.

The latest models show the greatest chance of a wintry mix north of I-20. No significant accumulations are expected.

The chance for rain will continue into the afternoon hours. There still could be a little wintry mix across the Midlands. High temperatures will only be in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.

A lingering flurry or drizzle will be possible Monday night, but skies will start to clear out by Tuesday morning.

High temperatures Tuesday will rebound into the lower 50s under mostly sunny skies.

Most of the workweek will be dry. It will be slightly warmer each day. The chance for rain returns to the area by Friday.
