COLUMBIA, S.C. — Planning a trip to Myrtle Beach or Charleston this holiday weekend? Well, one study says you better be cautious on your journey!

South Carolina has been named the 6th most dangerous state for travel this Memorial Day, according to A Secure Life's "The Safest and Most Dangerous" list.

That ranking is thanks to fatal Memorial Day crashes in the Palmetto State between 2013 and 2017. For every 100,000 people, South Carolina saw 1.02 crashes on Memorial Day, which is only .28 away from the most dangerous state — West Virginia.

Here's how the Top 10 Most Dangerous States rounded out:

  1. West Virginia
  2. Mississippi
  3. North Dakota
  4. South Dakota
  5. Delaware
  6. South Carolina
  7. Alaska
  8. Idaho
  9. Louisiana
  10. Wyoming

Looking for some safer states to travel to for your beach and barbecue days? It seems a trip north is your best bet!

Top 10 Safest States:

  3. Illinois
  4. New Hampshire
