WINNSBORO, S.C. — A Winnsboro home was destroyed Wednesday morning, according to officials with the Fairfield County Fire Service.
Fairfield County firefighters say they were dispatched to a home on Smalls Chapel Road in Winnsboro around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after a neighbor called 911. When they arrived, the house was fully involved.
Jason Pope, Director of Fire Services in Fairfield County, tells us the two adults and two children were not home when the fire started.
Pope says because the structure was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, it makes it extremely difficult to figure out how the blaze started. He did say there were no factors they knew of that could have contributed to the fire (cooking, appliance left on, etc.).
Officials tell News 19 the home is a total loss, and the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
No injuries were reported.
