'Hero' Columbia Airport Employee Saves 3-Year-Old Boy

A reunion of an angel and a super hero took place at Columbia's airport recently after an airline employee performed a courageous act.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A reunion of an angel and a super hero took place at Columbia's airport recently after an airline employee performed a courageous act.

Aleta Smalls, an employee with Delta Air Lines, was getting ready for work when her daughter told her she needed to "come over right now," because a little boy had fallen into an apartment pool.

When she arrived at the pool, 3-year-old Josiah Betha had already been taken out of the pool by his cousin, but something wasn't right.

"I looked at him and I was like okay let me have him," Small said. "So I laid him down and checked his pulse and his neck and his lips were blue and I was like okay he needs CPR, and that's what i did. And i'm thankful that he's here."

Jasiah's father Orlando Betha shares his gratitude for a woman who went from being a stranger, to the hero that saved his son's life.

"I just want to tell Ms. Aleta, 'thank you very much for giving me a second chance with my son,'" Orlando said. "She didn't have to do what she did and risk losing her job to save my son's life. She's God's angel, she really is."

Smalls credits her CPR training for giving her the ability to save his Jasiah's life.

She is also working with the family to provide swimming lessons for the 3-year-old, since she thinks it's imperative for every child to know how to swim.
