Charleston, SC (WLTX) - A North Charleston police officer is in serious condition and a police K9 is dead after a crash Thursday night.
South Carolina Highway patrol says it happened on U.S. 52 at Gum Wood Rd around 9 pm.
Officer Brandon Van Aufdal was driving his police vehicle North on US 52 when a GMC SUV tried to turn into a driveway.
The GMC hit the officer's SUV on the passenger side, killing the police K9. Officer Aufdal was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
We're told the driver of the GMC is 37-year-old Richard Shore. He has been charged with felony DUI.
