Officials say a stolen car led police on a chase before it crashed at Challenger Learning Center.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Officials say a police chase ended in a crash near a Richland One middle school Thursday morning.

Columbia Police says an officer initiated a traffic stop on the 2500 block of Two Notch road around 2:30 a.m.

Investigators say the vehicle matched a description of a stolen vehicle reported out of Richland County.

CPD spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons says during the attempted stop, the driver drove off and crashed near W.A. Perry Middle school.

The driver got away after the crash.

Richland One spokeswoman Karen York says the car crashed at Challenger Learning Center on Germany Street. That's caddy-corner to W.A. Perry Middle School.

York says school was not affected.

RCSD confirms the vehicle was reported stolen out of their county and says they assisted in recovering the vehicle.

There is no word on how many people were in the vehicle during the incident.
