Riverbanks Zoo's Lions Cubs Now Have Names

Votes came pouring in — 14,000 to be exact — to be part of the naming process for these adorable babies.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Introducing Amara, Asha and Zari! The three new lions cubs over at the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden have officially been named.

Votes came pouring in — 14,000 to be exact — to be part of the naming process for these adorable girls.

Now, we aren't sure if the names are telling of the cubs' personalities, but they do have some meaning! Amara is a Nigerian name meaning grace; Asha translates to life or lively in Swahili; and Zari stands for golden in Swahili.

This month has been a busy one for the cubs, turning 3 on July 10, then making their first public debut only 2 days later. With the option to roam outside or lay around inside, zoo officials say the best time to catch a glimpse of the babies is early in the morning!
