Suspect Who Severely Beat Man with Firewood on the Loose

One suspect turned himself into deputies.

Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - One suspect is in custody, and another is sought in connection to an attempted murder case that left a man brutally beaten.

Initial reports stated 23-year-old Quenterio Jamal Wilson, of Elgin, and 26-year-old Jake Santonio McCray, of Camden, severely beat a victim with a piece of firewood on the 1400 block of Dixon Road in Elgin around 10:30 p.m. February 14.

Deputies are searching for McCray after Wilson turned himself in on February 15.

“The severity of this beating was horrific as the victim’s face is having to be reconstructed,” said Chief Deputy Jack Rushing. “Wilson and McCray are very violent offenders and need to be in prison and off our streets.”

The victim remains in intensive care for massive facial injuries. Witnesses say shots were fired, but physicians determined he didn't suffer any gun shots wounds.

Another victim, also a witness to the beating, was reportedly pistol-whipped by McCray.

Wilson is charged with attempted murder, and is being held at Kershaw County Detention Center after bond was denied. He was already out on bond for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature after reportedly shooting another man in February 2017.

Both suspects reportedly have several previous charges.
