Lane changes made to busy exit ramp in Lexington County

Last Friday, the Lexington Police Department announced the changes to the Exit 61 ramp off Interstate-20 onto Sunset Boulevard.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lane changes have been made off of a busy exit ramp on Interstate-20 in Lexington County.

Town of Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall announced in his State of the Town address back in February there would be changes coming to area roads this year.

Lexington has already started that work by making changes to Ginny Lane near Chick-fil-a.

The town has also expanded their new camera system at intersections to help with the flow of traffic.

Last Friday, the Lexington Police Department announced on social media changes to the Exit 61 ramp off Interstate-20 onto Sunset Boulevard.

In the past, there was only one lane to turn right onto Sunset Boulevard going towards the Town of Lexington. The common complaint has been drivers sweeping from the far-right lane to the far-left lane so they can turn onto Ginny Lane at the near intersection.

While the changes do not affect this lane, there will now be additional lane to turn right onto Sunset Boulevard to have easier access to the left-hand lanes if you’re turning onto Ginny Lane at the next intersection.

When you get onto the exit ramp off Interstate-20, you will pull up to the light at the intersection and stay in the middle ramp lane. When the light is green, you can either turn left or right in the lane. If you turn right, it will lead you directly into the left-hand lanes.

Those who wish to turn right onto Corley Mill Road should use the right ramp lane.

The Lexington Police Department urges drivers to be patient as everyone adjusts to the new lane changes.

Additional signage has been added to help drivers know the lane changes off the exit ramp.
