Over 1000 animals adopted in this year's 'Pick Me SC'

The 2nd annual adoption event saw more than 1500 animals adopted in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA, USA — Over 1000 dogs and cats found new homes this weekend.

Through the states "Pick Me SC" Adoption event 1,556 animals were adopted.

This was the second year the state held the event.

Victoria Riles, who works with the City of Columbia Animal Services, says she was very impressed with the event's results.

"It was a big success," Riles says. "The purpose is to really try to free up space in the shelters so it really benefits us because it gets the animals into some homes and it gives us some space to help more animals."

According to Riles, the City of Columbia Animal services had 62 dogs and cats adopted in this year's event.

"This event is one of my favorites," says Lisa Thomas, who works with Lexington County Animal services, "This is a state wide adoption event this is something that South Carolina is standing up for so it makes me proud to be able to participate."

The Lexington County and Columbia Animal shelters both plan on participating in next year’s "Pick me SC" event. And they also host other events throughout the year to help their animals find homes.
