Sumter County man tried to buy car with $8,500 counterfeit check, deputies say

Sumter County, SC (WLTX) - A Florence man is facing a forgery charge after an incident at a Sumter County car dealer Tuesday.

American Auto Sales on Myrtle Beach Highway contacted Sumter County deputies when 31-year-old Marcus Antonio Blair attempted to buy a car with a counterfeit check.

The check was made out for $8,500, but law enforcement reportedly couldn't verify it's authenticity.

According to a report, Blair falsely made, forged or counterfeited, or caused or procured to be falsely made, or willfully acted or assisted in the false making, forging or counterfeiting of that check.

He is currently being held at the Sumter County Detention Center.
