A'ja Wilson Named Rookie of the Month For August

Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson has been named the rookie of the month for the third time this WNBA season, giving her a clean sweep of that category.

She swept the national player of the year awards as a senior at USC and now A'ja Wilson has another sweep to her credit.

The Heathwood Hall product who led the Gamecocks to the national championship as a junior has been named the WNBA Rookie of the Month for August. All three Rookie of the Month awards for the WNBA season has gone to Wilson, making her the leading contender to be named Rookie of the Year.

In August, Wilson averaged rookie highs of 22.8 points (second in the WNBA overall) and 6.0 rebounds in eight games. She also ranked second among first-year WNBA players in field goal percentage (51.5) and blocked shots (1.38 bpg).

A WNBA All-Star selection, Wilson has scored at least 18 points in all eight games during the month. On Aug. 17, she finished with 34 points (on 15-of-20 shooting from the field), seven rebounds and four blocks in a 107-102 road loss to the Dallas Wings.

If Wilson wins the award, it would mark the second straight year a USC product has been named the league's top rookie. Allisha Gray won the award in 2017.
