Clemson experiences Media Day in New Orleans

Both Clemson and LSU spend their morning taking part in Media Day to preview their Monday night showdown at the Superdome

NEW ORLEANS — The Xavier Convocation Center in New Orleans was the scene for Media Day featuring the two teams who will square off Monday night for college football's ultimate prize.

Clemson and LSU each spent an hour in the arena answering questions from the media and while some of the topics were "out of the box" in an effort to be edgy, most of the questions did center around either the game or the make up of the teams.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney had his own podium as did his coordinator and key starters including the quarterback and running back.

The Tigers from Pickens County have won 29 straight and have a chance at a third national championship in the last four seasons. Swinney talked about that process that began when he was named the permanent head coach following the 2008 season. That success is directly related to how Clemson has elevated its recruiting to the point now where it can go anywhere in the country and land A-list prospects. That clout is evident in the current recruiting rankings for the Class of 2020 as they Tigers are ranked first nationally. Swinney was asked about the clout Clemson has on the recruiting trail.

"Well, I think we've earned it. That just didn't happen," Swinney said.

"We just didn't show up one day and say 'Hey, we're Clemson, Come to Clemson' and kids want to come. That's been earned through years of consistency. Nine, 10-plus win seasons. National championships, conference championships. Those type of things. Big, big wins. Big, big moments over the last decade."

Monday night could be a big, big moment for the Tigers as they hope to walk out of The Big Easy with a 30-game winning streak.
