Wide receiver Sammy Watkins is expected to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs on the first day of free agency Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

According to NFL Network, which first reported it Tuesday morning, that the two sides had reached an agreement, the three-year deal is worth $48 million, with $30 million guaranteed.

The No. 4 overall pick in the 2014 draft, Watkins spent the first three seasons of his career in Buffalo before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams last year. He finished with 39 catches for 539 yards and eight touchdowns in his first and only season in Los Angeles and was expected to be one of the top wide receivers on the market this offseason.

In Kansas City, Watkins will serve as another important target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the team's presumptive starter following the Alex Smith trade earlier this offseason.
