CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. — A vehicle fire and cleanup that shut down part of the I-95 bridge over Lake Marion for hours on Saturday has been cleared, authorities say.

According to data provided by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the fire happened on I-95 near mile marker 101 around 3:30 a.m. State cameras showed traffic stopped on the north side of Lake Marion as crews worked in the middle of the bridge.

According to Master Trooper Brian Lee, the vehicle that caught fire was a tractor-trailer. He said crews were still working to remove it from the bridge throughout the day. At one point, traffic maps showed cars backed up past Summerton.

Lanes reopened around 6:12 p.m. with the road finally being cleared at 8:07 p.m. according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Authorities haven't yet released additional information about the cause of the fire or what led to the lengthy closure of the bridge.
