Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - A Claflin University student is dead after deputies say he was shot by his roommate, who also goes to the school.
The family confirmed to News19 the victim's name is Dravious "Dre" Terry.
The shooting happened at the Campus Corner Apartments on Chestnut Street. Orangeburg County deputies say they were called to the scene around 10:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found Terry dead inside one of the units.
Andrew Sanders Jr., 21, of Savannah is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the case.
Detectives have not yet said what they believe led up to the shooting.
Claflin University sent out the following statement that details what they know about the investigation:
"We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Dravious Terry, a senior business major from Greenville, SC. Mr. Terry suffered a gunshot wound this morning at Campus Corner, a privately-owned apartment complex off Chestnut Street near campus. His alleged assailant shared a room with Mr. Terry at the complex and has been arrested.
"The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation by Claflin University's Department of Public Safety and the Orangeburg County Sheriff Department.
"We invite your thoughts and prayers for the Terry family during this difficult time."
