$810 million investment, 450 new jobs coming as state-of-the-art battery cell facility expands in Florence

AESC announced expansion of manufacturing facility as part of partnership with BMW

FLORENCE, S.C. — A state-of-the-art electric vehicle battery manufacturer, AESC, announced the company will invest $850 million to expand operations in Florence County. 

The expansion comes as the company enters a multi-year partnership with BMW and is expected to create 450 new jobs in the Florence area.   

AESC will produce battery cells for the next generation of EV models produced at BMW's plant in Spartanburg.

The existing site in the more than 1,000-acre Florence Global Technology and Commerce Park will expand to increase production capabilities.

This latest expansion is expected to be completed by 2026, bringing the total investment to $1.62 billion and 1,620 new jobs in Florence.
