COLUMBIA, S.C. — Chris English is a Multi-Skilled Journalist at WLTX-TV in Columbia, SC, covering breaking news and a variety of stories from across the Midlands community. He has been with the station since June of 2024.

Chris always knew he wanted to work in television. It just a took a little while to get there.

When Chris was six years old, a local weatherman visited his elementary school to speak to students about the weather and working in TV. Chris was instantly hooked and knew, even at that young age, that he had found his calling.

Years later, as a teen in Central Florida, Chris was able to foster his passion for production and storytelling courtesy of his high school’s television production program. After high school, Chris enjoyed a brief stint in Gainesville, FL working as a television producer before making the jump into radio.

Over the next 24 years, Chris did everything imaginable in the radio industry, from producer and engineer to field reporter and studio host. Working in radio allowed Chris to sharpen his skills as a broadcaster and storyteller, something he brings to his work at WLTX every single day. His most recent position before coming to Columbia was reporting live from a TV news helicopter in Orlando, covering breaking news, weather, and traffic. Along the way, Chris earned The Communicator award for a 9/11 tribute special, and recognition from the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists.

In 2021, after spending over 20 years in the broadcast industry, Chris decided to go back to school. He studied Broadcast Journalism and Communication at the University of Central Florida in Orlando where some of his fellow students were half his age. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

Chris and his family moved to Columbia in May of 2023. When not sharing the stories of his fellow South Carolinians, Chris, his wife Kate and their son Sheadon enjoy spending time with their golden retrievers and taking in everything the area has to offer. Especially the food!

Chris has a servant’s heart and loves helping people by sharing their stories on News19. He also enjoys connecting with viewers through Facebook, Instagram, and X (twitter). Just search @ChrisEnglishTV. You can also reach him directly at CEnglish@wltx.com
