COLUMBIA, S.C. — Shelly Garzon is a Multi-Skilled Journalist at WLTX in Columbia SC. Shelly joined the team in November 2023.
Shelly grew up in New Jersey and eventually headed south where she attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication.
After graduation, Shelly continued her education at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, where she received her master’s degree in mass communication. She is a first generation Ecuadorian-American and became the first in her family to earn their master’s.
During her time at the Cronkite School, she worked as a graduate and research assistant for the university, traveled to the Dominican Republic to report on border issues and worked for Cronkite News as the Borderlands and Multicultural reporter in Washington D.C.
Shelly’s passion for journalism came at a young age. She recalls watching the local Spanish language news with her mom and grandma
In her free time, Shelly enjoys exploring the Midlands, watching Netflix or going for a walk with her four legged best bud, Teeqo.
