SOUTH CAROLINA, USA — Country singer Darius Rucker is partnering with SC Parks and Recreation as a tourism ambassador in 2020.
Rucker will appear at events and on marketing materials in order to boost tourism in the state, according to the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The department will also show commercials for South Carolina at his concerts.
“Whether he’s singing about his hometown or talking about his life experiences, you can tell Darius Rucker is proud of where he’s from,” said SCDPRT Director Duane Parrish.
Rucker is one of the most famous faces in South Carolina. The Charleston area native went to the University of South Carolina. It was there that he formed "Hootie and the Blowfish" with his fellow bandmates.
Over the years, the band's success and his own as a solo artist has put him on a national stage, literally and figuratively. He's frequently seen wearing South Carolina Gamecocks hats and talking about his home state, both in interviews and on social media.
Rucker's 2020 schedule as an ambassador includes an appearance at the RBC Heritage golf tournament on Hilton Head Island in April.
