COLUMBIA, S.C. — Candy cane corbels, sugar cookie shingles, lollipop lights... what does your gingerbread dream house look like?
It's time to bring your vision to life at City of Columbia Parks & Recreation's Best Decorated Gingerbread House Contest at Earlewood Park Community Center on December 12. Registration is now open for gingerbread home builders ages 18 and up.
There is no fee to enter and there are prizes for the top three finishers -- first place winner gets $100, second place $75 and third place gets $50. Deadline to enter is November 30.
The rules are simple:
- All Gingerbread Houses must be placed on a board or cardboard base not exceeding 22” x 22”
- All Gingerbread Houses must be 100% edible (candy, embellishments, materials) except for lights, if used, ‘inside or outside of’ the house
- Non-edible support structure material other than the baseboard may not be used
- No artificial interior materials, such as Styrofoam or wood, are to be used to construct or decorate the house
- Non-edible decorations, such as paint, ribbon, figurines, etc. may be used ONLY to decorate your base
- Completed entries should be dropped off at Earlewood Park Community Center, 1113 Recreation Dr., 9 a..m-3 p.m. Wednesday, December 11. Judges from Columbia Parks & Recreation will judge the entries and winners will be notified with a phone call.
All of the entries will be on display for public viewing at Earlewood Park 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, December 12.
