Cinderella Project accepting prom wear donations through Friday, Feb. 23

Annual free event provides high school students an opportunity to find their dream prom attire

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Once again, the Cinderella Project is accepting donations of new and gently used prom attire ahead of the main event on Saturday, February 24, at Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia.

Donations will be accepted through the end of business Friday, February 23, at various locations throughout the Columbia area, including WLTX News19 studios at 6027 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia.

The Cinderella Project event, organized by South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division, brings together volunteers, sponsors and community members to create a memorable experience for young women in need so that they can attend their prom dance feeling confident and beautiful. 

New and gently used items that are accepted include:

  • prom or semi-formal dresses
  • shoes
  • accessories, including jewelry

The free event is on a first-come, first-served basis. While there is no pre-registration required, attendees must be currently enrolled in a Midlands-area high school and present an valid student ID.

Doors will open 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday at Brookland Baptist Church, 1066 Sunset Blvd, in West Columbia. Volunteers will be available to offer fitting and styling advice.

In addition to dress selection, students can learn more about working in the legal profession from practicing lawyers volunteering in this fun, low-stress environment.
