COLUMBIA, S.C. — Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a Golden Ticket giveaway, which features prizes such as family four-packs, behind-the-scenes tours, and chances to feed the animals. A total of 50 special Golden Tickets will be given out through June 30, 2024, at various locations across the Midlands.

The prize must be claimed in person at WLTX studios, 6027 Garners Ferry Rd., before May 31, 2024. The winner must use the prize package within 12 months of claiming.
Founded in 1974, Riverbanks features over 3,000 animals and 5,700 varieties of plants over 170 acres on the Saluda River in Richland and Lexington counties. In addition to animal and plant exhibits, the zoo features walking trails, seasonal splash zones, a petting zoo, a rock climbing wall, a carousel, and a Sky-High Safari.
The annual Riverbanks 5K Run to benefit wildlife conservation is scheduled for May 11.
Riverbanks is already at the nation's forefront of conservation, partnering with other organizations accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) to save animals from extinction. Six species in particular are part of Riverbanks' program, including the giraffe, coral, North American songbirds, Monarch butterflies, radiated tortoise, and sharks and rays.
Looking toward the future, Riverbanks' Bridge to the Wild plans will "transform the Zoo and Garden into the state’s leading conservation resource and elevate its stature as the Southeast’s premier destination for family fun." The plan features four major projects, including a Primate Forest bridge, a multipurpose facility on the Saluda, enhanced lion and tiger habitats, and an expansion of the Carousel Plaza.
