COLUMBIA, S.C. — You won't need bait and tackle to land a unique piece of art on Wednesday, May 15. That's when an auction of 35 leaping trout sculptures will be held at Columbia Museum of Art.

The 6-foot-tall sculptures, painted by local artists and high school and college students, have been on display in the museum's Salon Gallery since May 6. Now, the pieces will be auctioned off in The Loft event space at the museum beginning at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The event is part of Columbia Streams Art public art project, and the trout are meant to celebrate the city's location and access to three adjacent rivers. Money raised from the auction will go to fund further public art displays in the city.

Wednesday's auction is free and open to the public and will feature food, beverages and music. Online bidding will take place until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
