COLUMBIA, S.C. — Turtles. You see them in lakes and around rivers and streams throughout the South.
Now, the City of Columbia is seeking 10 local artists for its next Columbia Streams Art public art project -- this time focusing on the city's relationship with the three rivers that flow through it and using an animal that has become a symbol of water -- the turtle.
Columbia Streams Art organizers have chosen large fiberglass turtle-shaped sculptures (measuring 15"H x 35"L x 18"W) for artists to work their creative magic on before being placed on view in public locations along Columbia's Saluda Riverwalk pathways.
If you would like a chance of being one of the 10 artists selected for the turtle project, you should complete a proposal submission form. You will be asked about your vision for the turtle, the methods and techniques you would use to complete the project and how your vision would "stimulate interest and engagement with" the Saluda, Broad and Congaree rivers.
Artists chosen to participate will be given a $1,000 stipend.
