LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Town of Lexington is readying the route for the annual Veterans Day Parade this afternoon. Drivers in the area are asked to be alert and watchful as officers set up detour signs, cones and barricades.
Downtown, road closures will begin at 1 p.m. at the parade staging area at West Butler, Haygood and Meetze streets.
Local traffic in Lexington will be blocked on West Main Street -- from Columbia Avenue to North Lake Drive, and on South Lake Drive to Fort Street -- at 2:45 p.m.
The parade will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Haygood Street and will continue down West Main Street, and end at the Veteran's Monument on South Lake Drive.
The best viewing spots will be along West Main Street, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to park and find a viewing area along the route.
Parking will be available at the Lexington Municipal Complex, County of Lexington Administration Building and the Lexington County Courthouse, and some grass lots on South Church Street.
The parade will last about an hour and West Main Street and South Lake Drive are expected to reopen by 4:30 p.m.
Wear a jacket or bring a light blanket or wrap as the temperatures will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.
