Oh, the horror! SC Horror returns to Columbia and charity walk/run season has begun

Charity walks and runs dominate this weekend, but there's plenty of events on the calendar, including a horror-con, and... did someone mention Game Day?

COLUMBIA, S.C. — We're made it to mid-September, when the weather begins to cool and weekend events calendars begin to fill with charity walks and runs. 

While there are indeed walks (and a swim) scheduled for this weekend, if you are not wanting to be that physically challenged, there's plenty to do on the calendar. Check it out:

FRIDAY through SUNDAY, September 13-15

Kershaw County Library Book Sale, noon-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Old Armory, 1042 W. Dekalb St., Camden. Book lovers, it’s time to stock up during this annual sale. 

FRIDAY, September 13

Food Truck Friday, 11a.m.-3 p.m., REI Co-Op parking lot, corner of Bull Street and Colonial Boulevard. This week features Annie B’s Mini Donuts, Heaven’s Cuisine, Leafy Delight Eats & More, Mama’s Taste of the World, and Toms Creek Mobile Market 

Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run & Walk, 6 p.m. Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln St. Commemorating the 9/11 attacks and the work of all first responders, military heroes, and their families. Register to walk or run, or donate online

2024 Sampaguita Soiree celebrating Filipino Culture & Contributions, 6-10 p.m. R212 Conference Center, 763 Fashion Drive, Columbia. An evening of captivating performances, traditional dances, and an elegant display of Filipiniana attire, showcasing the cultural diversity and heritage of the Philippines. 

Admiral Radio album release show, 6:30-10 p.m., Indah Coffee Co., 2238 Sumter St. Celebrate the release of Admiral Radio’s Good Things Take Time. BYOB and camp chairs and gather for an evening of live music. Donation-based event. 

Anything Goes, 7:30 p.m. Town Theatre, 1012 Sumter St. The classic musical adventure on the high seas hits the stage with music and lyrics by Cole Porter and original book by P.G. Wodehouse and Guy Bolton 

Murder & Mysteries Irmo Walking Tour, 8-9 p.m., Irmo Town Park, 7330 Carlisle St., Irmo. Learn all about the murders, mysteries, duels, and lynchings that occurred in Irmo and the Dutch Fork as you take a leisurely walk through downtown Irmo with docents from Lexington County Museum. Attendees be 18 or over or have parental permission. 

Anthony Hamilton, featuring The Ton3s and Leela James, 8 p.m. Township Auditorium, 1703 Taylor St. Spend an evening with Grammy Award winner and Charlotte native Anthony Hamilton 

SATURDAY, September 14

18th annual James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Foundation Walk, 8 a.m., Martin Luther King Park, 2300 Greene St., Columbia. Sickle Cell Disease is one of 11 severe chronic diseases affecting children in South Carolina. The annual Sickle Cell Walk is a community-driven event that brings together people from all walks of life to bring awareness to this disease. All profits will go toward scholarships for local students living with Sickle Cell Disease. 

Empowering Hearts and Minds 5K Run and Kids Fun Run, 8 a.m., Meadowlake Park, 600 Beckman Rd. Richland County Recreation Foundation and Richland County Recreation Commission partner for this family-friendly event to raise money for mental health initiatives in county parks. 

Lake Murray Dam Swim, 7-11:30 a.m. Race starts at Dominion Energy’s Irmo boat landing and goes 2.5 miles to the beach at Dominion Energy Lexington Park. Proceeds go to fund an indoor pool in Lexington County 

Cayce Fall Plant Exchange, 1800 12th Street, Cayce. Plant drop-off 9:30-10 a.m. at Granby Gardens Park. Children and pets welcome, you don’t have to bring a plant to participate. 

Artist Pop-Up, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Columbia SC Visitor Center, 1120 Lincoln St. SaBrina Jeffcoat of Royal African Company, LLC jewelry AND Danielle Premont of NoirVeda Naturals plant-based skin care. 10% of each purchase goes to fund grants for artists in the South 

ESPN Game Day: USC Gamecocks vs LSU Tigers, gates open at 6:30 a.m. for Game Day, football game starts at noon. Williams-Brice Arena. Come early for ESPN Game Day, stick around to support the Gamecocks (2-0) in their bid to start the season undefeated against the 16th ranked Tigers (1-1) 

Little Red Riding Hood, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Columbia Marionette Theatre, 401 Laurel St. An irreverent take on the classic fairy tale – with puppets! 

All Breed Horse Show, 9 a.m., Red Bank Arena, 1159 Nazareth Rd., Lexington. The Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino Federation of America and Stephanie Lewis present this all breed show with judge Jennifer Stoudemire. Register your horse and rider before 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. 

SATURDAY & SUNDAY, September 14 & 15

Midlands Fall Arts & Crafts Market, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, SC State Farmers Market, 3483 Charleston Hwy., West Columbia. Over 160 crafters and vendors from across the Midlands showcase their talents. Silent auction to benefit Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia. Free parking & admission. 

SC Horror: The Sequel, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Ok horror fans, here’s your chance to scare and be scared. Cosplay as your favorite ghoul, take part in Dark Castle’s Traveling Haunt, meet guests that include Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie), Mark Patton (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2), Robert Mukes (Westworld, Texas Chainsaw Massacare), Sylvia Jefferies (Halloween II, Nashville, Piranha 300), director Jack Sholder (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Wishmaster 2, The Hidden) and more 

SUNDAY, September 15
