ELGIN, S.C. — The US Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed a 2.5 magnitude earthquake near Elgin, SC, occurred at 7:11 a.m.
This is the sixth minor earthquake in the area this week. The first earthquake -- a 3.3 magnitude tremor -- occurred Monday at around 2:18 p.m. near Lugoff. That set off a small swarm of quakes, including the one this morning. All of the quakes were within 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) of Elgin.
