NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A dog that has been missing for two weeks in South Carolina has been found dead.
North Charleston police told media outlets in Charleston that Bella's remains were discovered down an embankment around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Bella had been inside a truck parked outside a Lowe's in North Charleston back on December 22. The truck was stolen that day and the dog went missing along with the vehicle.
For days, it was unclear if they person who stole the truck had the dog.
But then last Thursday, a suspect, Richard Rawlings Jr., was arrested in connection with the incident, and the stolen truck was found, but the dog was not with them.
Bella's owner, Ben Brengle, told reporters that the suspect told authorities Bella jumped out of the truck's broken rear window shortly after the theft.
Brengle had offered a $10,000 reward for the safe return of the 2-year-old yellow Labrador retriever mix. A Facebook page had also been set up, and volunteers posted fliers in an effort to bring her home.
