Calhoun County graduates receive prom do-over

Calhoun County graduates and current seniors gathered together to celebrate their high school memories for one last time.

CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. — Students from the class of 2020 to 2021 got a second chance at Prom after theirs was cancelled due to the pandemic.

John Evans with the class of 21 says he was happy to see the school welcoming him back.

“The school's been very nice to me," Evans explained. "I am definitely happy about being back here in my lovely state of South Carolina... except for gas prices."

Evans says his senior year of high school was tough due to pandemic changes.

After his prom was cancelled Evans says he went to Missouri for basic training with the military. When he got the call that he could come back to his old high school for prom he had mixed emotions.

“I mainly just came back for my girlfriend because she wanted me to come, but it's nice though we've been having a good time," Evans said.

Other students like Carissa Jones and DaVee-Auna Waddell said they were excited to celebrate their high school years with everyone.

“It's nice because they didn't get to have theirs," Waddell said. "We're just ready to have fun," Jones added.

The class of 2022 will graduate with a ceremony at Calhoun County High School on June 4.
