FIRST LOOK! First Photos of Baby Gorilla Released by Riverbanks Zoo

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden released the first images of the baby gorilla Tuesday.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) — Riverbanks Zoo and Garden released the first photos of its newest addition Tuesday morning, adding that "Kazi and her infant, dad Cenzoo and the rest of the family troop all are doing well this morning."

The baby gorilla was born to mom Kazi and dad Cenzoo at 8:10 a.m. on Monday, June 4.

"The first 72-hours post-partum is the most critical, says John Davis, Director of Animal Care and Welfare at Riverbanks. "The infant began nursing shortly after delivery and appears to be bonding well with mom. Davis says animal care staff will continue to closely monitor Kazi and her infant and the entire family troop."

Gorilla Base Camp will be closed to guests for the next several days while the family troop enjoys time together indoors, according to the zoo. Guests, however, will have an opportunity to see Patrick, Riverbanks' other male silverback, on exhibit daily.
