'Adorable, fuzzy friends of ours': Meet Minnesota's stylist to the mascot stars

From custom-made kicks and hats to super chic couture dresses, each and every accessory The Project Place makes fits just like a glove.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Morgan Groff isn't your average stylist to the stars.

"Literally, just now, I got an email from my contact for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch job, introducing me to Mr. Peanut."

Groff, owner of St. Paul's full-service soft creation shop, The Project Place, and her staff, have outfitted some of the most well-recognized spokespeople, objects and animals in Minnesota since 2022.

"We do pattern making, draping, sewing ... all of that stuff," Morgan said.

The Project Place exists in the capital city's Payne-Phalen neighborhood, a 10,000-square-foot space nestled inside one of Hamm's old brewing facilities.

"We're Minnesota-based. We are a women-owned and women-run business — which is so cool," Morgan said. "We're a bunch of badass ladies that use power tools and rubber cement and industrial techniques to put together these adorable, fuzzy friends of ours."

You know them as Tommy, Goldie, Cinnamoji — and a handful of others.

"We've worked with Bricks Real Estate ... He was our very first mascot and he was the one who started it all," she said.

And another — who isn't your average bear.

TC Bear and his iconic minor league counterpart, the St. Paul Saints' mascot Muddona, are longtime clients of Morgan's.

"Sometimes, mascots need a new look, and we have the privilege of making them so cute!" she said.

One of Morgan's newest projects with the Twin debuted over the summer.

"The city collab between Nike and the twins was so much fun to work on," Morgan said. "They're such bright colors; they're so cute — look how cute this jersey is!

"It's got the waves for Minnesota lakes, it's got the North Star ... and we worked really hard to make that come alive. We're so excited that they trusted us with these designs."

From custom-made kicks and hats to super chic couture dresses, each and every accessory The Project Place makes fits just like a glove.

"I consider myself a specialist in shoes, and it's super fun to design new sneaker styles and fit them and design them," Morgan said.

So even though they might be the stars you see in front of the camera, those stars didn't make Morgan.

It was Morgan, who made them.
