Our troops lay down their lives in the ultimate sacrifice for their country -- the least Americans can do is lay down wreaths on their graves this Christmas.
That's the goal of Wreaths Across America. The national organization hosted wreath-laying ceremonies all across the country on Saturday, including Greensboro.
Community members gathered at Forest Lawn Cemetery where 1,100 wreaths were placed on the graves of heroes.
US Marine Harry Youngblood was there for the ceremony. He lost his son Marine Sgt. Lenny Youngblood.
"It's hard when you're a Gold Star parent," said Youngblood. "Anything that can help another veteran's family, that's what we're all about."
US Marine and Wreaths Across Greensboro co-founder Wade Harvey became emotional remembering his fallen comrades. He says it's important to continue the wreath-laying tradition for veterans an their families.
"A veteran loses their life, they're laid here, and then they're forgotten. And we can't let that happen anymore," said Harvey. "We've got to bring the younger generation to carry this on."
Harvey said he was glad to see so many people attend the ceremony despite the rainy weather.
