FORT WORTH, Texas — There are a million ways to say thank you. Blizzard, a puppy, has his own as he growled wrapped in a blanket.
“We were dumbfounded. We don't understand how you could intentionally dump a box of eight puppies sealed with tape for ultimately death,” said Cassie Davidson, Humane Society of North Texas Public Relations Supervisor.
Davidson said on Wednesday afternoon, a good Samaritan who wanted to remain anonymous dropped off eight puppies at the facility after witnessing someone roll them out of a vehicle onto a highway in Fort Worth. They were in a sealed box that was wrapped in tape.
“He saw a nose a little puppy nose sticking through the crack of the box,” Davidson said. “Thank God that there was a crack when it broke, or these puppies would not have survived.”
Not only did they survive, Davidson said they are fairly healthy.
“I think some of the biggest struggles right now with these little guys is the flea dermatitis, the extreme overload of just all parasites that that they come with,” said Davidson.
The Humane Society shared the pups’ story to their Facebook page. Support rolled in with more than $5,000 donated to help with medical care.
“We've been overwhelmed with the phones ringing,” said Davidson.
In an update Friday, Dec. 28 the Humane Society said five of the puppies (all males) were adopted and the three remaining female puppies are being cared for and may be available for adoption soon.
In the meantime, the Humane Society is working with authorities in this case.
“It's unfortunate when people abandoned animals which is which actually is punishable by law,” Davidson said. “We have programs that are free for so many of our community members, just make sure that you connect.”
They are hoping others will make that connection just as the good Samaritan did.
“My eyes are watering have right now, thinking about this. So, I say it's easy. But if we had one word for the good Samaritan, we would say thank you,” said Davidson.
