Sumter Police K-9 who helped finding missing children, adults dies unexpectedly

K-9 Murphy was certified in human tracking and article and narcotics detection.

SUMTER, S.C. — The Sumter Police Department is mourning one of their own. 

K-9 Murphy, who was certified in human tracking and article and narcotics detecting, began work at the department in 2017.

Sumter Police Sgt. Cameron Bryant and his partner K-9 Murphy goof off in happier times. Murphy passed away after a brief illness.

He was assigned to his partner and handler Sgt. Cameron Bryant.  Together the pair is credited with numerous successful tracks to find missing children and adults. They also located criminals and recovered stolen property.

Murphy died after a brief illness.  He was 7.  

A memorial service is planned for Murphy and will be held at a later time according to the police department.
