BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. — The Batesburg-Leesville community has come out in force to support residents impacted by a recent fire at an assisted living facility.
Just one week ago, a section of the Generations of Batesburg-Leesville facility caught fire. First responders said there were no serious injuries, and all 52 people there escaped safely. However, the fire impacted 17 units at the facility and 21 women were displaced.
Since then, local churches and other groups have been dropping off donations at the facility, including clothes, shoes, reading glasses, toiletries, and towels. They even had beds, chairs, nightstands and lamps dropped off.
The facility's administrator said they're very thankful for such generous neighbors.
"I would just like to thank the community and for everyone from the smallest to the largest donation," Hammie Robertson said. "And we just thank everybody, and I know that once our needs our met, just please don't forget about us because the ladies have really enjoyed the visitation from everyone coming in and out."
Robertson said that if anyone would still like to donate, they're looking for small accessories like jewelry and lipstick for the ladies living at Generations.
"It's very heartwarming, and it really makes us feel good to know that there is still love for your neighbor, and that everyone cares, and that they have just reached out to make sure that the needs have been met," Robertson said.
