South Carolina organization supplying heaters to seniors as temperatures drop in Midlands

Project is part of Central Midlands Council of Governments' wider range of services available for seniors

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Winter weather is finally settling in across South Carolina, and some in South Carolina's communities are without heat. With temperatures expected to dip to freezing and below in the next few weeks, an organization in the area has begun supplying heating units to seniors 60 and over.

The program is part of the services provided by the Central Midlands Council of Governments (CMCOG) and is available for residents in Richland, Lexington, Newberry, and Fairfield counties.

CMCOG can also help seniors with dental services reimbursement (up to $2,000 per year), medication reimbursement (up to $800 per year), hearing aid reimbursement (up to $3,000 per year), and wheelchair ramps, as well as portable heating and A/C units. Qualifying seniors pay nothing for these services. CMCOG's program is fully funded at over $2 million.

For more information, contact CMCOG's program specialist/assessor, Mikaela Myers, at 803-376-5390 ext. 346 or email mmyers@centralmidlands.org.
