COLUMBIA, S.C. — Many people across the country took a moment to honor their mother on Sunday, celebrating with cards, flowers, and dinner. News19 caught up with a few people waiting in line for brunch in Columbia.
“She’s always there for everyone. She’s the most kind person I know,” Meredith Howell said of her soon-to-be sister-in-law.
“Go-getter, let no grass grow under her feet; she’ll go out and get it,” Benjamin Foster said of his mother.
For many, their mother is an adviser.
“The best advice that Mom has ever given me: don’t expect anything from anyone. Work hard for what you want and earn it,” Jerquille Moultrie said.
“Money don’t grow on trees,” Cathy Mack said.
Mothers are often a source of strength. Cathy Mack said her best moment as a mom was supporting her children as they both welcomed children of their own on the same day in the same hospital.
“That was my best, best moment because two boys came into the world two hours apart," she said. "That was an aha moment for me having two grandsons on the same day, July the 30th."
While some celebrated the present, many took the day to remember their mothers.
“We lost our mother earlier this year and so this day is a little bittersweet and so we’re thinking about her but also together that’s the best thing,” Celeste Tell said.
“She died with cancer when I was young, but she was born in Bamberg, South Carolina, and she moved to New York, got her nursing license, and she never stopped from there,” Foster said.
And mothers themselves reflected on the importance of their role.
“We have to nurture our kids and provide for them and love on them and treat them how they should be treated in this world," Moultrie said. "So that when they go out there, they don’t just take anything from anyone,”
Happy Mother’s Day!
