Carolina Band takes music to Columbia streets ahead of Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

The band is still raising funds as of Saturday night to fund the trip, which is quickly approaching.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Carolina Band got some practice marching in the streets on Saturday, just weeks before its performance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The band marched from Greene and Pickens streets to the South Carolina State House to familiarize itself with the process as it prepares to debut in the storied parade. Out of more than 100 applicants, they'll be one of just 10 bands—only four at the college level—chosen to perform in the parade.

The Carolina Band has been practicing for months and raising funds to cover the hefty cost of the trip. The band now has a community fundraising site to raise $645,000 for the trip to New York City on Nov. 28, 2024.
