State Christmas tree arrives at State House in Columbia

The tree will be decorated before it is officially lit during the Governor's Carolighting on Nov. 19

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s official 2024 Christmas Tree arrived at the South Carolina State House Monday morning.

This year’s tree is a 35-foot-tall Norway Spruce, and comes from Henderson Tree Farms in Morganton, N.C. This is the second year the tree has come from Morganton.

Dominion Energy will string over 13,000 LED lights and The Columbia Garden Club, with support from the Garden Club of South Carolina, will hang 900 ornaments in the coming days.

According to Melissa Prickett, with the Columbia Garden Club, "The team at the State House has always been so supportive and responsive to any requests including storing the lights and ornaments every year and hauling them back out again the next year.”

The tree will stay dark until the 57th Annual Governor’s Carolighting ceremony on Sun., Nov. 19. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. on the South Carolina State House’s North Lawn and will be televised live on SCETV.

This year, performers represent the entire state, from the Gullah Lowcountry sounds of Marlena Smalls and the Hallelujah Singers, to the upstate high-energy strings duo the Synergy Twins. Other performers include the University of South Carolina “Carolina Gentlemen” a capella group and the 282nd Fort Jackson Army Band. Jada Samuel, Miss South Carolina, will emcee the program and Santa will arrive prior to the event to visit with families and will be available for photos.
