COLUMBIA, S.C. — Are you a local business or nonprofit who likes to decorate your store or office to show off your holiday cheer? If so, you might like to know about the City of Columbia's Holiday Decorating Contest.

This first-ever contest is meant to help get everyone in the holiday spirit -- and yes, there is a prize for the “Most Festive Business/Nonprofit in Columbia.”

The rules are simple:

  • The contest is open to all businesses and nonprofit organizations within the City of Columbia. The deadline to register online is Friday, December 13
  • Participants are invited to decorate the exterior of their storefronts, entranceways, or window displays—provided that the decorations are visible from the outside and are family-friendly.
  • Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann will narrow the field of entrants to 3-5 finalists, based on three key criteria: adherence to contest rules, creativity, and, most importantly, festivity. Finalists will be announced on Monday, December 16
  • Public voting begins on social media to determine the winner, December 16-22.
  • Winner will be announced Monday, December 23.

The winner of the contest will receive a $500 prize, recognizing the entity as the “Most Festive Business/Nonprofit in Columbia.”
