Family mourns the loss of Jacksen Fitton, a beloved athlete, brother, and son

The community is heartbroken after the passing of Jacksen Fitton, a senior and a standout athlete.

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Allendale community is heartbroken after the passing of Jacksen Fitton, a senior at Allendale High School and a standout athlete who touched the lives of all who knew him. Jacksen passed away earlier this week, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, dedication, and kindness.

Jacksen's parents, Carrie and Jasen Fitton, say their son was the definition of an all-around athlete, excelling in every sport he touched. His passion for basketball was especially evident.

A three-year starting point guard on the varsity basketball team, Jacksen was known for his versatility on the court, playing wherever he was needed to help secure a win for his team. But it wasn't just his athleticism that made him stand out—it was his unwavering determination.

"He had a motto that he lived by: never give up," shared one of his coaches, Coach David Brown. "That was Jacksen, on and off the court. He was always the first to offer help, and his commitment to doing whatever it took for his teammates and family was unmatched. He embodied resilience in everything he did."

For those who knew him, Jacksen was a role model in the truest sense. He was the oldest sibling, a protector and confidant to his younger brother and two sisters. The bond they shared was something his family holds dear.

"I miss our talks at night," recalled his younger brother. "We’d lay in the bunk bed and just talk. We were that close. It’s one of the things I’ll never forget."

His parents are grateful for the memories they shared with him, especially the moments that were uniquely theirs.

“Jacksen made Carrie a mom,” Jasen Fitton said through tears.

As a family, they know Jacksen’s time here was filled with love, kindness, and a spirit that inspired others. His parents often find themselves hearing new stories from friends, teachers, and teammates about the positive impact Jacksen made in his short time on earth.

“It's beautiful to see how much good he spread,” said Carrie Fitton. “Hearing about the way he impacted others warms our hearts as parents.”

In honor of Jacksen's memory, a funeral service has been planned for early next week, where friends, family, and the community will gather to celebrate his life and the remarkable person he was.

Though Jacksen may no longer be with us, his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught: to never give up, to love fiercely, and to be there for the people who matter most.

Jacksen Fitton will always be remembered as more than just a basketball player. He was a beloved son, a loving brother, and a friend who made a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to know him.

He had been battling an autoimmune disease as well as thrombotic microangiopathy, according to a GoFundMe organized to help his family with funeral and memorial costs.
