Pets need annual checkups, too

All pet owners want their beloved companions to live long, healthy lives.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Pawmetto Lifeline is an animal rescue organization whose goal is to create a no-kill community. To keep your pet happy and healthy, annual checkups are important.

Jean Rutkowski, a veterinary technician at Pawmetto Lifeline, says, "an annual exam is just to check your animal out. They can’t speak to us, so we listen to their heart, we look in their eyes, we look in their ears, look at how big their lymph nodes are and abdomen. Just to make sure things look okay and feel okay.”

Rutkowski helps identify early signs of diseases or conditions that may not be immediately apparent to pet owners. Our furry friends can live longer and be healthier if such problems are detected and treated early.

“Just like us, they can get little things that are wrong. If you address them early, it’s one: less costly and two: better for the patient,” notes Rutkowski.

Annual checkups offer numerous benefits for our pets and allow veterinarians to thoroughly examine them, ensuring their well-being from head to tail.

And don't forget, there are many other available cats and dogs waiting for their forever homes at Pawmetto Lifeline.
