COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dawn Wilkinson, executive director of the Humane Society of South Carolina, highlighted the significance of vaccinating and microchipping your pet.
"Preventable illness and disease, early vaccination, and consistent vaccination is the key to keeping anybody's dogs or cats healthy," Wilkinson said.
Wilkinson stressed the importance of vaccinations in protecting pets from life-threatening diseases such as rabies, distemper, and parvovirus. Vaccinations prevent these diseases and help pets stay healthy and live longer.
"At our clinic in Columbia, we run a low-cost vaccine clinic Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, where we provide basic vaccines for as low as $10 apiece, with no visit fee," Wilkinson said.
Additionally, the Humane Society offers microchipping, a permanent identification method critical in returning a lost pet to its owner.
"If you love your animal and you love your pet, the best thing you can do is microchip because you just don't know if that animal gets out. That animal can travel many, many miles away from where your home is," Wilkinson emphasized.
