COLUMBIA, S.C. — American Freight, a nationwide appliance and furniture store, is going out of business soon and that including the 10 stores that are in South Carolina. But that means sales are underway as the company looks to get rid of its inventory.
Hilco Consumer-Retail, the parent company of American Freight, announced recently that it would close all 328 stores in the United States. That includes the one on Atlas Road in Columbia as well as the nine others across South Carolina, in cities such as Greenville, North Charleston, Rock Hill, and Myrtle Beach. The company had declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in federal court in Delaware.
Franchise Group said in filings that inflation and "macroeconomic challenges" led to their decision to close.
However, now that the decision had been made, the company has begun sales at all locations.
Sale Details:
American Freight said shoppers can save up to 30% on its lowest ticketed prices storewide. Available items include living room sets, bedroom furniture, dining tables, and a selection of scratch & dent and new in-box appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers. The company said during the sale new inventory will still be arriving.
"Our goal is to deliver outstanding value to customers during this full chain closing sale," Hilco Consumer-Retail CEO Ian Fredericks said in a statement. "Everything is on sale and must be sold, and we recommend shopping early for the best selection."
