COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia City Council is seeking the public's input to consider the adoption of a new city-wide zoning map to correspond with the recently adopted Uniform Development Ordinance (UDO), formerly known as the Planning, Land Development, and Zoning Ordinance. UDO consolidates and revises the current zoning and land development ordinances, and establishes zoning districts that each have a different set of permitted uses and development standards.
A public hearing on the zoning map will be conducted using Video Conferencing Technology at 2 p.m. Jan. 19, and those interested will have a chance to listen to and participate in the meeting via telephone.
The new zoning map can be viewed online by visiting www.weplantogether.org/columbiareview/. The map and the adopted UDO will apply to all parcels and areas of land within the municipal boundaries of the City of Columbia.
The UDO creates a user-friendly code that streamlines and modernizes procedures, creates a more efficient and predictable process, and provides for more flexibility in appropriate contexts. The map is the visual representation of the UDO. The 598-page UDO can be read online at www.weplantogether.org
