Company chooses Lee County for first South Carolina operation

Engineered Foam Packaging plans to add between 50,000 and 100,000 square feet to its facility in the next two to three years.

LEE COUNTY, S.C. — New industry is expected to begin operations in Lee County by mid-2023 and create dozens of jobs, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said on Thursday.

According to a statement from the governor's office, Engineered Foam Packaging, a subsidiary of J.B. Poindexter & Co., has announced plans to invest $15 million in a new location on Browntown Road near Bishopville and create 53 jobs.

The company specializes in making "custom protective packaging and cold chain solutions" according to the governor's office.

"This new manufacturing center in South Carolina augments our geographic reach allowing us to more effectively serve our diverse customer base in the Southeast while opening a whole new geography for growth and expansion with prospective new customers," Engineered Foam Packaging President John Hoeper said in a statement released by the governor.

The new location will also include a "custom upfit" of a 117,0000-square-foot industrial building that will house the manufacturing and distribution operations.

There are also plans by the company to add between 50,000 and 100,000 square feet to its facility in the next two to three years.

“Indeed, this is an exciting opportunity for Lee County and demonstrates our ability to attract and grow national and international businesses in our area," -Lee County Council Chairman Travis Windham said in a provided statement. "We are committed to the continued support of EFP as they strengthen our economy and our industrial landscape."
