Local produce supplier expanding, adding 40 new jobs in Richland County

$26.6 million investment will expand, automate facility off Pineview Road

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Family owned McEntire Produce has announced it is investing $26.2 million to upgrade automation at its state-of-the-art facility in Columbia, creating 40 new jobs in the process.

The upgrade and hiring process will be phased in over the next five years. McEntire currently employs approximately 700 workers at the facility and trucking operation.

McEntire is a fresh produce processor, repacker and wholesaler and handles general processing of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and coleslaw mix for fast food restaurants. The upgrades to the facility at 2040 American Italian Way, off Pineview Road in lower Richland County will improve production capacity.

The company has been operating in Richland County since 1938 and Carter McEntire, CEO and Produce President said, “The McEntire family is pleased to further invest in its Richland County manufacturing facility. The investments planned over the next five years will improve the capacity, enable customer expansion and create more jobs for South Carolinians.”

State Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers said, “McEntire Produce’s expansion will create more agribusiness jobs for South Carolinians and more opportunities for South Carolina farmers. I’m glad to see this respected, multi-generational local business solidifying its commitment to our state.”
