FOREST ACRES, S.C. — After 17 years, Sue Hodges and her daughter Anne Reynolds have decided now is the time to start wind down their daily routine and eventually close their Happy Cafe.

The restaurant started out inside The Happy Bookseller at 4525 Forest Drive in 2003. Hodges carved out a space near the front of the book store and set up tables where she would serve sandwiches and slices of Hodges' famous caramel cake.

When The Happy Bookseller closed in 2008, Hodges rented a portion of the remaining space to expand the cafe.

Now, Hodges and Reynolds say they have outlived Happy Cafe's motto of “Food, Family, and Love” and it's time to move on to something new.

Happy Cafe will remain open through the end of the year with dine-in and take-out orders available. Customers can stock up on the cafe's signature dishes such as chicken barbeque, casseroles, and of course, Sue’s Famous Caramel Cake.
